In the street if you unfortunately got in a situation where you had to defend yourself, youre not going to wearing big 16oz boxing gloves or even small MMA gloves. For this reason i advise practising punching the heavy bag with your bare fists. Your knuckles and wrist will eventually build the strength needed to hit something without being damaged, also this a great way to learn how to clench your fist correctly. A lot of times when wearing gloves, fists are not properly clenched and this can be carried out when punching without gloves on.

Nice video marks, techniques look crisp, sharp, movement round the bag is good to..quick question, 1. Where can i get a decent cheap stand alone punchbag? 2. Any drills you can suggest for toughening the hand and feet when using the bag. 3. Also what do u think of makiwara's was thinking of getting one..is it worth it? cheers keep it up, blogs looking good. sanj
Thanks Sanj, You can get them from any boxing or martial art retailers nowaday, but i reccomend getting on the Internet as there usually cheaper. I got my speedball from the Internet and you can get some good bargains. Just check out lots of websites. To toughen your hand and feet you just got to keep hitting the back hard for the best results. I got a post about shin toughening. Use the following link to get there, http://markschat.blogspot.com/2007/09/shin-conditioning-for-combat.html
I meant BAG not BACK
Mark it looks like you need to practice with a heavier bag. It is flying around everywhere in the video, and you constantly have to center it with your left hand. How many pounds are you using with your bag.
I work this lighter bag after my heavy bag routine. I like thae fact that it swings everywhere as i feel it simulates a moving opponent more than the heavy bag does. Videos of me and my heavier bag can be found at my youtube channel, http://youtube.com/user/marksmarkou
Mark, what do you suggest about what knuckles to use when punching without gloves? Index and middle or rather middle and ring finger. for me it feels more natural to use the middle and ring finger but they say those are more vulnerable.
Hi,
It has always been widely thought of as the Index and Middle Knuckles are best for punching, however sometimes it does not always work out this way.
