If there is anyone out there who doesn't know what the bob and weave is, just look up old Mike Tyson fights on Youtube and you will soon find out. A master of the bob, weave and slip, Tyson would make his opponents look like amateur's when they got frustrated trying to hit him. But when I watch MMA fights i rarely see this important boxing defence. Theres a simple reason for this. In a boxing fight, only hand blows from the midsection up are permitted. Theres no low blows, kicks, knees or grappling. For instance if knees were allowed, every time a fighter tried to bob and weave, im sure the next thing his opponent would do, would be to slightly lift his knee to strike the face area, which would probably cause a lot of damage. This MAY be why you rarely see the bob and weave in Mauy Thai fights. Please dont get me wrong. It is worth mastering as there is never anything that can not be pulled off in a fight (as long as it is in the rules), BUT be cautious. In a MMA fight if your opponent sees you bobbing and weaving a lot, he may take advantage and start his knee strikes!!!

Bobbing and weaving in the traditional sense - at the waste will lead to knees, no doubt. This can be changed by bending with the legs instead. Keeping your guard tight around your head also helps. And lets not forget the main argument here - who among us can land an effective knee/kick while being punched in the face?
^ any decent mma fighter. as soon as you start bobbing and weaving a few times anyone with half a brain will catch on and throw a mid kick (to your face) or throw a knee. it dosent work in mma
we are talking boxing here stupid! Not mma. MMA anyone can do in their backyard or basement. But boxing is an art and take any MMA fighter out of his element and a boxer would kick his ass anytime in the ring of boxing. It's a fact and truth MMA fighters have no boxing skills whatsoever other than throwing a punch which anyone can do but to block and bob and weave and dip now that is strategy unlike MMA style which is whatever works use it.That is not stategy just dumb luck.
DDA, for you to say that MMA fighters have no skill whatsoever is a vey naive and ignorant view on the matter. Vitor Belfort stepped into a boxing fight and finished his opponant early on.
Boxing is an art and does take a lot of training to master but MMA is a mixture of not just boxing but many other disciplines and takes just as long and possibly longer to master due to the additions it requires fighters to know.
If it were so easy to catch someone with a knee or a kick when they are bobing and weaving wouldn’t it be even easier to catch someone shooting for a take down.
I think you don’t see bobing and weaving in MMA is because it’s a rare skill, even most boxers don’t utilise it much.
Ps. Avoiding a knee of kick when bobing and weaving would be just like avoiding an upper cut in boxing, the motion is the same.
There have been many times when people shooting in for takedowns have took viscous knees to the face. Timing and speed are crucial for a good takedown.
